The 2012 Edition of the North American Specification and the Commentary supersede all previous editions of the AISI- and Canadian-published Specification and Commentary, with recent advances in research on cold-formed steel design. The Specification provides design methodology for determining the strengths (capacities) of cold-formed steel structural members. It is intended for use in the United States, Canada and Mexico. It has been approved as an American National Standard in the United States by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), developed in Canada by CSA Group, and endorsed in Mexico by CANACERO. The Commentary provides a record of the reasoning behind, and justification for, various provisions of the Specification.
The Specification and the Commentary include a main document (Chapters A through G and Appendices 1 and 2) that is intended for use by all three countries. There are two country-specific appendices: Appendix A is for use in the United States and Mexico, and Appendix B is for use in Canada. There is an integrated treatment of Allowable Strength Design (ASD), Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD), and Limit States Design (LSD).
